Jasper Jones

Author: Craig Silvey
Publisher: New York: Alfred A. Knopf 2011

Late at night in 1965, Jasper shows up at Charlie’s window, desperately seeking his help. Embracing adventure, Charlie follows Jasper to a clearing in the bush, finding a terrible sight awaiting them - a secret that will bond the two boys together. Charlie faces “a town closing in on itself in fear and suspicion” (Goodreads) as edges closer to the truth.
A wonderful text that has been adapted to both film and theatre, reaching a wide audience. Grab a cup of tea and a comfy seat, or plug in your headphones to dive into this read!
This small town mystery has an important sense of time and place in Australia. Silvey also makes use of the first person narrative and a banter-filled style, helping to drive this coming-of-age story forward.

  1. Hi Cathy
I love the visual impact of your blog, having the covers of the books altogether and being able to click on them to read the post is very appealing. What you've written about each book is interesting too, it made me want to read some of the books where I've seen the movie but haven't read the book yet.

Good idea for a blog subject too.

If I ever get my own blog please could I hire you as my blog designer?

    1. Thanks Sarah. All credit must go to the template that I used. I just changed the colours and fonts around. I'm glad it inspired you to read some of the books. Doing this subject made me go out and buy the Helen Garner book, seemed too good to miss!

  2. Hi Cathy
I've taken a look at your promo material. It's a good idea to use Facebook posts to correspond with the blog posts. Adult audiences especially would like this. I like the pictures with the quotes in them, but thought the title of the book could be a bit more prominent on those posts.
Nice simple but effective design for the bookmark and poster.

    1. Hi Sarah. Thanks for taking the time to look at my promo material too. I think it's a very good suggestion to make each book title prominent in the Facebook posts. Doing that might help jog someone's memory about watching the film/tv show and encourage them to click through to the blog.
